I've gotten rid of Clan Eshin and Malus Darkblade using very little money and I'm now headed towards Barak Varr so I can finally trade and get some real money. I'm about 80 turns into an Imrik ME campaign. Sure dragons are great but you don't get them until late in the game (if you're Imrik they're even better but the problem there is you have no money because you have to go to hell and back in order to begin trading). They have great AP melee units but being melee they're limited and they suck against strong lords and heroes - it also takes ages to get access to them (you can get White Lions early but as far as I can see they're terrible).
None of their heavy cavalry are armour piercing (that's true of cavalry in general if I'm not mistaken, which is why I seldom use them). Archers are almost useless against anything with armour (boy do I miss Darkshards).
